It takes time to regrow your hair.
Results may appear after 2 months of twice-daily use. For some men, it may be necessary to use this product for at least 4 months before seeing results.

Please read this leaflet carefully. It will help you understand how to use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% and what to expect from its use. If you have any questions after reading this leaflet or at any time while using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%, you should consult your doctor.

What is Kirkland Minoxidil 5% Topical Solution?

Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% is a colorless liquid medication containing 5% minoxidil for use only on the scalp to help regrow hair in men.

Who can use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% is intended for use by men only. It may be right for you if you are a man aged 18 or older and experiencing gradual thinning or hair loss at the crown of the scalp (only on the top of the head, as shown below). It is not intended for frontal baldness or receding hairlines. The general hereditary pattern of hair thinning or hair loss begins slowly and may not become noticeable for years.

Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% is for men with hair loss or thinning that begins at the crown. It is more likely to regrow hair in men with hair loss in the range shown below. If you have more hair loss than shown, Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% may not work for you.

Many men who experience hair loss have other family members with gradual thinning or hair loss. If you do not have a family history of gradual hair loss or your hair loss is patchy, consult your doctor.

Who should NOT use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

  • Women should not use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%, as studies show it is not more effective in women than Minoxidil Topical Solution 2%. Some women may also experience facial hair growth. Additionally, Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% may be harmful if used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  • Do not use in babies or children under 18 years of age.

  • Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% will not prevent or improve hair loss caused by certain prescription medications, severe nutritional problems (such as very low body iron or excessive vitamin A intake), thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism), chemotherapy, or scalp diseases that cause scarring.

It also will not improve hair loss due to:

  • Damage from hair care products that cause scarring or deep burns on the scalp.

  • Hair styling methods (e.g., heated styles or tight ponytails) that pull hair back from the scalp.

Do not use if you are unsure of the reason for your hair loss.

Will Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% work for me?

The amount of hair regrowth varies from person to person. Not everyone will benefit from using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%. The response to treatment cannot be predicted.

However, for the best results, apply the medication directly to the scalp and use it twice daily, every day.

You may achieve better results if your hair loss is recent or mild. However, for some men, Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% may not work.

How soon can I expect results from using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

Because normal hair typically grows only 1 to 2 cm per month, regrowth with Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% also takes time.

Results may appear as early as 2 months with twice-daily use. For some men, it may take at least 4 months to see results. If you do not see any results after 4 months, stop using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%.

When you first start using the product, hair loss may temporarily increase for about 2 weeks. This is expected and part of the process of how the product works. Remember, this increased shedding is temporary. However, if it continues after 2 weeks, consult your doctor.

If Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% works, what will the hair look like?

At first, new hair growth is usually soft, colorless, and fine (like peach fuzz). With continued use, new hair should eventually be the same color and thickness as the rest of your scalp hair.

How long should I use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

If you experience hair regrowth, continued use is necessary to maintain it. In clinical studies, hair regrowth did not continue beyond 48 weeks of ongoing treatment without interruption.

What happens if I completely stop using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%? Will I keep my new hair?

Continuous use is necessary to maintain hair regrowth.

If you stop using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%, you will lose the newly regrown hair within 3 to 4 months.

How do I use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

For best results, apply 1 ml with an applicator twice daily directly to the scalp in the hair loss area. Using more or more often will not improve results. One bottle should last one month when used as directed.

Allow the product to dry completely before wearing a hat, lying on a pillow, etc. If wet, it may stain clothing or bedding. When applying it at night, ensure you allow 2 to 4 hours for it to fully dry. Never ingest the product or apply it to other areas of the body.

When should I use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

Apply once in the morning and once at night. The evening application should be done 2 to 4 hours before bed to allow it to dry completely. One bottle should last a month if used as directed.

What if I miss a dose of Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

If you miss one or two daily doses, just continue with your next scheduled dose. Do not attempt to make up for missed doses.

Can I use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% more than twice a day? Will it work faster or better?

No. Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% will not work faster or better if used more than twice a day. Studies have determined the optimal dosage for best results. More frequent use or larger doses may increase the risk of side effects without improving effectiveness.

What kind of shampoo should I use with Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

If you wash your scalp before applying the product, use a mild shampoo.

Can I use hair sprays, mousse, conditioners, gels, etc.?

Yes. Hair sprays, spritzes, or styling products can be used while using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%. For best results, allow the solution to fully absorb into the scalp before applying any styling products. Establish a routine where you apply Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% first, then style as usual. Proper application is key to best results.

Can I color, perm, or use relaxers on my hair while using Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

Yes. There is no evidence that coloring, perming, or relaxing your hair changes the effect of the product. However, these treatments may irritate the scalp for some people. We recommend the following precautions:

  1. Make sure all Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% is washed out from the scalp and hair before using any chemical treatments.

  2. For best results, avoid applying the product on the same day as chemical treatments.

  3. Do not use Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% for 24 hours after chemical treatments to ensure the scalp has not been irritated.

  4. Resume your normal usage routine afterward. Do not apply extra product to compensate for missed doses. Missing one day will not affect your hair regrowth results.

Can I apply Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% and wash my hair an hour later?

No. For best results, the topical solution should remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing your hair. Washing your hair sooner may reduce the effectiveness of the product.

Can I blow-dry my hair after applying Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

You should not use a hair dryer to dry the scalp after applying Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%. Using a hair dryer may make the treatment less effective.

What if someone accidentally swallows Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

This product is for external use only. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure, or dizziness.

Can I apply Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% to other parts of my body?

No. Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% should be used only on the scalp. Do not apply it to other parts of your body. Using it elsewhere may cause unwanted hair growth or irritation.

What are the possible side effects of Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%?

Some users may experience side effects, including:

  • Scalp irritation (redness, itching, dryness, or flaking)

  • Unwanted facial/body hair growth (if the product spreads to areas other than the scalp)

  • Dizziness
